I am the first member of an Australian state parliament from a libertarian political party.
I'm also the youngest member of the Parliament of Western Australia in about 20 years.
I was raised by a single mother in a family of seven boys. I have always had a sceptical mind. At an early age I came to the conclusion that each person is best equipped to make decisions about their own life, not politicians or bureaucrats. I discovered that I would rather think for myself, than have others impose their beliefs or values upon me.
It was through this scepticism that I took an interest in economics and politics. I discovered libertarian and classical liberal thinkers such as Ron Paul, Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, F.A Hayek and many more.
When I left high-school I went directly into the workforce. I worked in retail and more recently in a call centre. I joined in the Liberal Democrats in 2014 when it had fewer than 50 members in Western Australia. I was elected to the Legislative Council in 2017, and the party now has around 1,000 members in WA.
