John Stuart Mill Internship Program

The John Stuart Mill Internship Programme is an internship programme organised by the Office of Aaron Stonehouse MLC.

As part of the programme, interns are placed in the Office of Aaron Stonehouse MLC, where they undertake a project-based task. These tasks vary according to the skills and experience of the intern, but they are typically related to policy, research, social media, campaigns or data and insights.

Internships run for a duration of 4-6 weeks, and upon the successful completion of the programme, graduates receive a reference letter from the Member, describing their achievements and professional character.

Aaron Stonehouse MLC

Aaron Stonehouse MLC is the youngest member of parliament in Western Australia, and the first member of an Australian state parliament from a libertarian political party.

The John Stuart Mill Internship Programme is designed to commemorate the life and achievements of British philosopher John Stuart Mill, whose values of life, liberty and properly, deeply underpin those of Mr Stonehouse.

Selection criteria

Candidates must possess the following skills and attributes:

  1. An easy-going demeanour, and the ability to think creatively to get things done

  2. An appreciation of the classical liberal tradition, and the values of life, liberty and property

  3. A willingness to go the extra mile to promote the cause of liberty in Western Australia
